BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKIES
A blended whisky is the spirit produced from mixing different types of whisky. By blending with less expensive whiskies you can produce a lower cost quality product e.g. Mackinlay 5 year old or Teacher's Highland Cream. By blending with top grade and long aged single malts you can end up with a premium product at a premium price e.g. Johnnie Walker Blue Label or Chivas Regal 18 year old. Blended whiskies do give the customer a much wider price range and because of blending, a vast selection of different styles and flavours.
BLENDED MALT SCOTCH WHISKY……….requires a blend of two or more single malt scotch whiskies that have been produced at more than one distillery.
BLENDED GRAIN SCOTCH WHISKY……….requires a blend of two or more single grain scotch whiskies that have been produced at more than one distillery.
BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY…………requires a blend of one or more single malt scotch whisky with one or more single grain scotch whiskies.
BLENDED MALT……….requires a blend of single malts alone, without any other whiskies such as those made from grains other than malted barley. The old term for this style was Vatted Malt.
