Buy wines from North America
The USA is now the fourth largest wine producing country in the World after France, Italy and Spain, with California producing over eighty five percent of all USA wine. Washington State would be the next biggest, followed by the State of New York. Similar to Australia, the USA grows and makes wine from all notable European grape varieties and produces styles of wines similar to most of the European sub-regions e.g Bordeaux, Chianti, Rioja, etc, as well as its own rich full bodied fruit driven reds, for example the Cabernet Sauvignon wines of the Napa Valley or Pinot Noir from Oregon.
Long gone are the days when America was only noted for their "every day drinking and bag in a box style . Today, some of the Worlds finest and most expensive wines are produced and bottled in California and along the Pacific Northwest.
Canada is making very good headway in producing wines of good quality and distinction. Although not as well known for producing wines as their close neighbour the USA Canada produces some superb dessert wines, similar to the Rheingau in Germany. We can recommend an oustanding icewine from Inniskillen, Niagara-on-the-Lake
